Sept 10th - Permaculture: Regenerative Design & Edible Landscape with permaculture designer & teacher Ethan Roland of Appleseed Permaculture based in Hudson River Valley in NY. Sustainability is not enough. Drawing from direct connection with nature, Permaculture gives us a set of principles and patterns for designing REGENERATIVE homes, businessess, and gardens. In this evening workshop the abundant world of edible landscaping from basic permaculture practices to specific fruits, berries, vegetables, and flowers that you can grow at your home. Join us to envision a low-maintenance landscape full of delicious food, and learn the first steps to creating it in your community. Cost: $20 person to go towards the farm purchase of Alchemy Acres.

Sept 14th – Cool Season Vegetable Gardening with Ellen Moriarty of Ladybug Landscaping Part 1 from 7-8pm @ The Alchemy Café in Hartford. This class is designed for gardening newbies who want to learn how to plant for fall and winter harvests or how to start and improve a new garden. Traditional, raised-bed and container gardens will be discussed with an emphasis on organic methods of creating a productive vegetable and herb garden. The workshops begin with a short lecture and then follow with a lively Q & A about the participant’s gardens. Topics include: Essentials of healthy soil to produce healthy plants, How, when & what to start from seed, Identifying & controlling weeds, Preventing & controlling diseases & pests, Winter harvesting & preparing the garden for winter. October 9th - First NUTRIENT DENSE FOOD GROWING workshop in the year long series with organic farmer & founder of The Real Food Campaign, Dan Kittredge. Hands-on application demonstrating methods of crop cultivation that blend the wisdom of the past with the technology of the future throughout an entire growing season. 5 class series from Oct - July; $300 for the series.
